Swelling after Liposuction
When you undergo a liposuction procedure, swelling is a natural side effect. Bear in mind that you have just been through a surgical procedure. Occasionally, a patient may notice that she still has a belly bulge following lipo because of tissue laxity. In some cases, the stomach muscles may be lax, often because of childbirth. This can result in the abdomen still looking swollen even after liposuction. Liposuction cannot correct lax muscles or skin. A tummy tuck procedure is, therefore, the best option for such individuals.
In a few cases, a belly bulge following stomach lipo may result from intra-abdominal fat. Liposuction techniques cannot access the visceral fat cells. Therefore, if you have deep fat cells around your internal organs, this will remain following your procedure. As a result, your stomach will not be flat even after liposuction.
One further reason for a belly bulge after lipo is a medical complication called a hematoma or seroma. If this is the cause of your swelling, you must seek medical attention to resolve it.
How Can I Avoid A Belly Bulge Following Lipo?
The above scenarios are uncommon following stomach liposuction as long as you choose an experienced cosmetic surgeon. A skilled surgeon will determine whether he or she can remove your abdominal fat via liposuction. If you have visceral fat, the surgeon will tell you that he or she cannot remove those deep cells. The surgeon will also determine whether you have any muscle or skin laxity that could affect your outcome. Therefore, the surgeon will tell you whether a tummy tuck would be a better procedure for you. A skilled and experienced surgeon will also be less likely to cause a hematoma or seroma.
