Lipedema Surgery – How Much Pain Will I Experience?

If you are suffering from lipedema, you’re probably already used to experiencing pain and discomfort. Lipedema is an often misunderstood condition that causes physical pain, as well as a lot of mental health problems. Sufferers usually experience tenderness and discomfort when touching their lower limbs. They also bruise very easily and have reduced mobility as a result of the heaviness in their legs. The only truly effective treatment for lipedema is liposuction. This works by removing the fat cells that are the cause of the problem. While lipo is effective, it can seem very extreme to those who are looking for a solution. It’s no surprise that many sufferers want to know what the lipedema surgery experience will be like. Will it be worth having the surgery? Or, will the negatives outweigh the positives?

Lipo For Lipedema

There are several conservative treatments available for lipedema, but they not will cure the condition completely. Compression wraps and massages may help to alleviate some of the discomfort, but they won’t make the problem disappear. Liposuction is the only solution that people have found to offer long-lasting relief. By physically removing the problem fat cells, lipo restores a normal appearance to the lower body. It also helps to significantly reduce the pain and discomfort associated with the condition.

Will The Procedure Hurt?

During the surgery itself, you’ll experience no discomfort. The surgeon carries out the procedure under a local anesthetic. This means you’re awake but pain-free the whole time. As you won’t be under a general anesthetic, the surgeon can achieve a more complete result. He or she can use smaller instruments and you can move during the surgery to ensure maximum fat removal. You’ll also be able to return home the same day.

What About Afterward?

You will, however, experience some pain and bruising afterward. This will take several days or weeks to subside. You will be able to use painkillers to treat the pain, which should make you a lot more comfortable. You’ll also experience swelling afterward, especially in the ankles and calves. After a few weeks, you should see the swelling reduce and you’ll observe the final result of your treatment.

Although it won’t be a pain-free experience, you will immediately notice that your body feels less heavy and full. The tenderness and heaviness in your legs will be greatly reduced. As your body heals, you’ll see your body tissue restructuring and remodeling. New connective tissues will develop to tighten loose areas. While this is a slow process, after around six to12 months, you’ll see the true result of your surgery. You’ll also see significant visible improvements within four weeks of your procedure in most cases

Not only will you experience less physical pain after your lipo, but you’ll also enjoy better mental health. You’ll feel more confident and probably less depressed and anxious. You’ll enjoy a better quality of life by being able to move more freely and your self-esteem will increase.
